Former Head of UNDP Crisis Prevention and Recovery Team for Africa and former Chief of Staff and Minister of Interior in the erstwhile Mahama’s administration, Mr. Prosper Bani has advised against self medication in the midst of the COVID -19 outbreak.
In his epistle, Mr. Bani stated that there is no certified vaccine for the disease by the World Health Organization (WHO) hence people must desist from self medication.
‘’This is a very serious threat to our very existence as a people. I say this because as we speak there is no vaccine yet to cure the disease. To emphasize, no WHO certified medication is available to cure the disease.
Though we hear of several herbal medications and combinations of over the counter drugs that can cure the disease, I would like to warn against such practice and please avoid such dangerous attempts at self-medication’’ He stated.
His comments come at the back of Nigeria recording chloroquine poisoning across the country due to self medication to fight COVID-19 in the wake of President Trump’s comments about using it to treat coronavirus.
A Lagos state official told CNN that people were hospitalized in the city after taking the drug. Officials later issued a statement cautioning against using chloroquine for Covid-19 treatment.
In Ghana several concoctions are being wielded around as efficacious to COVID 19.
