The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has just been picked up by the police.

He was arrested by some officials of the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service at about few minutes to 4pm, sources from the NDC said.

It is believed the NDC leader was arrested in connection with an alleged arson and kidnappings in Ghana.

Earlier today, Ghanaweb published a report from Daily Guide that said the opposition leader had been arrested Tuesday afternoon the police in connection with alleged arson and kidnappings, a reason the police had invited him last month.

But Mr Ampofo denied the report at 14:56 GMT on Tuesday. “I have not been arrested, anyway,” he told but would not add his location.

But few hours after Mr Ampofo’s response, the police pounced on him and hauled him to his private residence for a search.
